Michael Buble Concert Review – March 23rd, 2010
Michael Bublé
March 23rd, 2010
Wolstein Center @ CSU
Cleveland, Ohio
Oh what a night it was. Canadian born, 34 year old, Pop Jazz artist Michael Bublé and his 13 piece ensemble entertained the night away at The Wolstein Center in Cleveland. Bublé was on top of his game last night, playing to a crowd of nearly 10,000 of his adoring fans.
It truly was as if he was playing to each person in attendance individually. His charismatic personality along with his love to entertain, makes this guy genuine. Other writers have compared Mr. Bublé to other singers or songwriters through the years, but from everything I’ve seen and read, they leave out his most important feature, the man truly is genuine. The word genuine is describe by dictionary.com as “possessing the claimed or attributed character, quality, or origin; not counterfeit; authentic; real:”…need I say more, okay I will. Sure he sing songs written by other people and sure there have been other crooner type singers and given all that, I can still say that Michael Bublé is a genuine entertainer.
His show last night was truly steller. The stage was donned with high tech video screens and had all the features one would expect, but it also did something magical…it made the large arena feel as though it was a plush, quiet nightclub. The show opened with “Cry Me A River”, a jazzy blues ballad that was originally written for Ella Fitzgerald, but by now, fine tuned by our Cool Canadian Crooner.
At one point during his set, he stopped to recognize as many people in attendance as he possibly could, and there were plenty, including an eleven year old girl that was holding a self created poster. There were also a couple of floral bouquets handed to him as he proclaimed ‘I feel like I’m at my own funeral’ and then stating that this was the best funeral he ever had. Mr. Bublé also told the crowd that it’s because of this, the entertaining and his loving fans, this is why he keeps doing what he’s doing and never wants to stop. To paraphrase, he loves his fricking life.
Mr. Bublé also did his rendition of ‘Michael Jackson’s’ ‘Billie Jean’ and says he does it because it gives him an excuse to grab his crotch, somehow I don’t think the ladies in attendance last night thought he needed one…I digress.
Jumping off the stage and heading to the back of the arena, he was nearly mobbed by the surprised fans dancing in the aisles. When he finally did make it back to the soundboard, he broke into an acoustic version of ‘Home’ which was a song released in 2005 on the album ‘It’s Time’. He had some fun with the song before it started, as the guitar began, he mimicked other songs that sort of began the same way including ‘Poison’s', ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn’.
He ended his set with his latest hit ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ which was well received, but left the crowd chanting for more…more they got when the encore started with ‘Feeling Good’ and then moved onto ‘Me and Mrs. Jones’ and ended with ‘A Song For You’ to which everyone thought he was singing just to them. It was good to see Mr. Bublé enjoy all the success that comes with they type of heart you need today for longevity. That’s one thing he has that is lacking in a lot of talent today…heart. May yours be as great as his…
